About Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is used in the NHS and in other settings.

It works from an understanding that inner thoughts or feelings that have been pushed to the very backs of our minds (that we are not conscious of) contribute to our emotional or relationship difficulties.

Exploring issues in psychotherapy can be hard work and psychotherapy can take time. However, it can also be a great relief to talk in this way.

In Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy the relationship with the psychotherapist provides a dependable 'space' in which to think. Sometimes, it is helpful, therapeutically, to think together about themes as they arise in the relationship with the therapist.
